ORIGINS

Tracing back to 4000 years BC, Terry Towelling finds its earliest roots in ancient Egypt and pre-Columbian Peru, where its remarkable ability to absorb water, made it a staple for keeping dry. The material’s European debut occurred during the Victorian era, inspired by travellers who witnessed its use in Turkey. Initially known as Royal Turkish Towelling, it gained favour with Queen Victoria herself, remaining primarily a utility fabric until the turn of the century.  


By the late 1950s, Terry Towelling found a new calling as beachwear, its refined quality boasting a smoother exterior, making it both visually appealing and functional. Its cinematic debut in the 1964 film Goldfinger, draped on the iconic James Bond, portrayed a blend of masculinity and luxury that captivated audiences. Then, White Terry Towelling sports socks became a fashion statement, embraced by Mods and Two-tone Rude Boys alike, adding a touch of flair to their attire. The Mod Revival era saw a resurgence in its popularity, cementing its status as a timeless classic.
