How To Care For Your HARUKI Denim

Patience, not polish. Let time do the work.

The Haruki Japanese Jean isn’t just denim- it’s discipline. Raw, unwashed, and rope-dyed to a deep indigo, these jeans are built to wear in, not wear out. But like any worthy companion, they’ll treat you well if you treat them right.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Should I soak them before the first wear?

It’s a hot topic, and honestly, it depends. The Haruki Denim is sanforized, which means it’s been treated to reduce shrinkage. So there’s no need to soak before you wear them.

That said, some denim purists still do it. A lukewarm water soak (inside-out, no soap, laid flat to dry) can help set creases early and reduce indigo transfer. But it’s entirely optional. If you want that crisp, dark first wear and are happy to let the creases form naturally, skip the soak and go raw.

How often should I wash them?

Not often. These jeans are made to tell your story—creases, fades, scuffs and all.

Aim to wear them for at least 4–6 months before the first proper wash. The longer you hold out, the more personal and dramatic the fades will be. Let the denim mould to your shape. Let it document your journey.

How should I wash and dry them?

When the time comes:

• Turn them inside out

• Use cold water and mild detergent

• Hand-wash or use a delicate machine cycle

• Avoid spinning them like mad

• Hang dry—never tumble

No bleach, no heat, no shortcuts. Keep it simple, keep it cool.

Will they stretch or shrink?

Yes- to both, in a way.

Being sanforized, they won’t shrink much, even after washing. But raw denim is stiff at first. As you wear them, the fabric loosens and adapts—especially around the waist, thighs and knees.

Expect a snug start. After a few wears, they’ll start to soften and shape themselves to your movement. That’s the beauty of it.

How do they break in over time?

Slowly. And perfectly.

You’ll see whiskers at the hips. Stacks around the ankles. Fades at the thighs. Every line will trace your life in motion. This is where the Haruki becomes yours. No factory distressing, no artificial wear. Just you, the road, and time.

How can I remove stains without damaging them?

Spot clean with cold water, a soft cloth, and non-bleach detergent. Dab- don’t scrub. And always test on a small area first.

For oil-based stains, a tiny bit of dish soap can help. Just rinse thoroughly and don’t overdo it.

Any products you'd recommend?

Keep it simple and natural.

Try any denim-safe, unscented liquid detergent and make sure to avoid anything harsh or packed with chemicals.

For storage? Fold or hang in a cool, dry place. Avoid the back of a damp bathroom door—mildew is not a good look.

Final thoughts?

The Haruki isn’t fast fashion - it’s a long game. Every crease, fade, and threadbare patch is a badge of honour. Don’t rush it. Don’t baby it. Just wear them, live in them, and let time do what time does best.

This is denim the way it used to be.

And the way it was always meant to be.

Worn through Time. Forged by Tradition.

For the Few.
