INTRODUCING

The Grady is our corduroy chino in Tan, a relaxed trouser cut for everyday wear and built to be lived in. Made from 12-wale cotton corduroy, with twelve vertical cords per inch for a smoother, finer ridge and easier wear, it sits in the versatile middle ground between fine needlecord and heavy wide-wale. At 290gsm it still carries real substance, so we garment wash it to take out the stiffness and bring the colour down to a soft, lived-in tone. It feels broken in from the first wear.

The details earn their place. A fishtail waistband and flap back pockets that tuck away, flat-felled seams with bar tack reinforcement at the fly, and branded corozo buttons throughout. A working cloth, cut for how men dress now, and built to wear in further over the seasons ahead.

ORIGINS

A northern cloth at heart. Corduroy's roots run back to the ancient world, but the cord we know today was made in the mills of Manchester, at the height of the Industrial Revolution. It's a myth that the name came from the French corde du roi, "cloth of the king".

It's a strong story, but one made up by marketers to sell more fabric. In fact, corduroy was the cloth of working men. Hard-wearing, warm, ready for graft. So synonymous with those northern mills that much of Europe still refers to the fabric as Manchester.
