ORIGINS

Named after its resemblance to "Borg," a term used to describe a cosy pile or sherpa-like texture, this fabric was developed as a lightweight, cruelty-free alternative to traditional shearling.

The emergence of borg fleece coincided with the rise of outdoor and leisurewear in the 1960s and 70s. Its insulating properties, combined with its soft, plush feel, made it a favourite for adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts seeking warmth without added weight. By the 1980s and 90s, borg fleece transitioned into mainstream fashion. Its retro appeal and versatile aesthetic made it a popular choice for casual wear, and it became a staple in everything from oversized coats to cosy pullovers.
