Testing the Boardwalk Peacoat with Rune Kjelseth

The cold weather season often requires a lot of preparation to stay comfortable while braving the elements. Whether it's keeping your head and hands warm or layering up with warm jumpers, having the right clothing can make all the difference. And when it comes to finding the perfect winter coat, few options are as classic and versatile as a peacoat.

Recently, we had the pleasure of working with Rune, a talented photographer who has been a long-time collaborator of ours. We asked Rune to put our Boardwalk Peacoat to the test in the coldest weather he could find, and he did not disappoint.

Vuosaari, located East of Helsinki and based along the Baltic Sea in Finland was an ideal place to start. His creative approach to photography requires a jacket that is both stylish and functional. The Boardwalk Peacoat proved to be the perfect piece for his winter wardrobe, providing the warmth and protection he needed to stay comfortable and focused on his craft...

How did you begin your career and what led you here?

My career as a photographer kind of started through modelling. I've had a passion for photography since I was a teenager, but didn't really know what I wanted to shoot, and I didn't try to explore it either.

It was only when I started modelling that I met a lot of photographers, and talked to them which led me to upgrade some of my gear, and I started shooting portraits of other models, and I fell in love with shooting portraits and capturing people.

What 3 words best describe you?

Down to earth, relaxed and optimistic.

How do you find inspiration?

That's a good question actually, as I feel I could definitely need more inspiration! I am getting inspired by other creators I follow through socials, but I would also like to take up some other creative hobbies such as drawing.

Tell us a bit more about your creative process. How does it begin?

I am pretty bad at planning, to be honest, but I plan an outfit for example and try to find a location that goes well with the vibe. Other than that, I pretty much wing it. I am starting to get more into video making, and have seen how smart it is to plan ahead and have a bit of script, so I will try to get better at it.

The big question... What did you think about the Boardwalk Peacoat?

The Boardwalk Peacoat quickly became my favourite coat, something I didn't expect as I've in the past tried to avoid too much Navy Blue. The fit is extremely good, and I feel as if it was tailored for me! I have worn it at minus 10 Celsius without feeling cold. The great thing about it is that I can fit a good knit under it and wear it on the coldest winter days, but I can also pair it with some lighter layers during fall and spring, so it is extremely versatile. I paired the Boardwalk with a number of new pieces from &SONS including the Ahab knit and Port Shawl collared jumper. Everything was super soft, incredibly warm and perfect for the conditions.

My favourite &SONS piece to pair with the Boardwalk would be the Thompson Baker Boy and I feel they are a perfect match! But sometimes I have to mix it up a bit, and I really like the Sun Yellow Atlantic Watch Cap as well. The blue and yellow look great together!

There aren't many occasions when I wouldn't wear the Boardwalk. It matches my style perfectly, and it has a classy feel to it, yet it's relaxed. Depending on how you accessorise it you can wear it to casual events as well as more dressed-up ones.

Overall, I have nothing bad to say about the Boardwalk, and it would be my top recommendation for anyone looking for a new peacoat!
