UTILITY OVER SYMMETRY

"Looks great on and the quality of the material says the piece will last for years."

INTRODUCING

Traditional workwear was designed first and foremost around function. Pockets went where they were useful, sized and shaped around what needed to be carried.

The Sullivan Shirt follows that thinking with two deliberately different chest pockets.

One is finished with a rounded flap and corozo button, the other left open with a carpenter’s pencil slot and reinforced bar tacks.

Cut from a 270gsm brushed cotton salt and pepper weave, the fabric combines light and dark yarns to give depth and texture. A garment wash ensures the cloth is soft from the first wear.

The construction is equally purposeful. Heavy topstitch thread runs throughout, with triple-needle stitching reinforcing the shoulders, armholes and side seams, and twin-needle stitching through the collar, yoke and laid-on placket.

Shaped elbow patches add further reinforcement, while a box pleat at the back allows easy movement. Finished with a hangloop, buttoned collar detail, curved cuffs and branded corozo buttons.

This is a workshirt that wears its origins on its sleeve.

ORIGINS

The railways shaped some of the most recognisable details in industrial workwear.

Engine crews, yard workers and maintenance teams needed clothing that could cope with heat, grease, soot and long shifts around machinery.

Shirts and jackets were cut from durable cloth, reinforced where they took the most wear, and fitted with pockets for the tools of the job. Pencils, notebooks, rules and watches all needed somewhere practical to sit. That meant pocket layouts were often dictated by use rather than symmetry.

The Sullivan takes its cue from that thinking. Two deliberately different chest pockets. One buttoned. One open. A modern workshirt built around an old railway principle
