Inspired by the iconic designs of the 1920s, this waxed cotton jacket pays homage to the spirit of exploration and the open road.

Crafted using Waxed British Millerain fabric and infused with the distinctive &SONS style, this jacket is a symbol of heritage, durability, and the road less travelled. The fabric, renowned for its quality and craftsmanship, enhances the jacket's weather resistance while giving it a unique finish.

Much like the explorers of the 1920s, this jacket matures with age, developing a unique appearance as it weathers the elements. It's an experience as authentic as the roads you choose to tread. With YKK zips, leather tabs, leather zip pullers, and metal hardware snaps, it strikes a balance between traditional and modern, echoing the spirit of exploration and adventure.

Care and function

Please note: This jacket is made with a wet-finished waxed fabric. The oily feel will dry during age and wear, and the surface may mark and crease. The oils may transfer, so handle with care, avoiding contact with lighter-coloured fabric and upholstery.

Care: Brush off mud when dry and sponge the area with cold water. Avoid contact with alcohol-based products, fabric softeners, and solvent cleaners, never use soap or detergents. Regular re-proofing with Millerain wax will maintain the weatherproof properties of the fabric and prolong garment life.

ORIGINS

Black Gold Definition: Black gold is a term applied to oil or petroleum, which is black when it comes out of the ground and is worth a great deal of money. The jacket's essence lies in the unique, oily finish applied to its waxed cotton fabric – a nod to the finish and nature of oil. We've named it Black Gold to pay homage to this liquid treasure.

The design of the Black Gold Jacket captures the essence of a moment when style struck gold. This design is a piece of history, an everyday companion reflecting the timeless allure of an actor who will be forever known as a style icon both on and off-screen. Inspired by authenticity and charisma, the Black Gold Heritage Adventure Jacket is a tribute to those who appreciate genuine style and the enduring influence of a true legend. Established in 1880, British Millerain pioneered the development of waxed cotton. 

Linseed oil was far from ideal, turning yellow over time and cracking in cold conditions, losing its weather-resistant properties. British Millerain pioneered the development of paraffin-based waxed cotton, which offered improved weather resistance and breathability without the deteriorating properties of linseed oil. This early work formed the basis of waxed cotton as we know it today.

The superiority of this new wax treatment was quickly recognised, and demand for ‘Millerain’d’ cotton increased worldwide.
