Le Bleu de Travail, Reworked

"The quality of the kit is fantastic and the fit is great."

INTRODUCING

Our take on le bleu de travail: a utility work shirt with embroidered detail and considered finishing touches.

Cut from 100% cotton twill and treated with a faded wash, the Levant arrives soft, broken in, with subtle colour variation throughout.

Triple-needle stitching reinforces the shoulders, side seams, sleeves and chest pocket, bringing strength and definition to the construction. As the shirt is worn and washed, these seams will develop further contrast against the faded body.

The grown-on placket is backed with herringbone trim, adding another layer of texture that will continue to reveal itself through wear.

A small ampersand is hand-stitched into the side gusset in matte thread, a quiet detail worked into the construction.

ORIGINS

Bleu de travail, literally "work blue", became the everyday uniform of French railway workers, factory hands and tradesmen during the 19th century.

The original work jackets were simple, hard-wearing and cut from durable blue cotton. By the mid-20th century, they had moved beyond the factory and into the studios of artists including Picasso and Matisse.

The Levant reinterprets that familiar French work jacket as a shirt, carrying its utility, durability and character into a lighter, more versatile form.
