Fatigue Fashion: History of the OG-107 Trousers

For a laid-back style pair with any of our Slub or graphic tee-shirts and baseline high-tops.

Made from a cotton mix, the shorts look well-worn, with vintage patina and fades and offer complete comfort with a 3% stretch in the fabric.

"A gem, would love one of all the range. Best compliment I can give is... I wouldn't tell anyone so I could look like I've stepped out of my own movie!"

INTRODUCING

Pioneers love our Surplus pant. In its simplest form, the olive-green patch pocket trouser is the pinnacle of design, everything you need and nothing you don't. Now we have designed a summer version so you can wear your favourites all year round.

We have replicated the essence of the iconic trousers in these shorts. Style meets functionality with additional cargo pockets and a reinforced crotch panel. Made from 97% cotton and 3% elastane for stretch and movement, these shorts have been stonewashed to produce the ‘lived-in’, vintage fade.

ORIGINS

OG comes from colour of the 8.5oz. carded cotton that they were made from, Olive Green. This utility uniform would end up being one of the longest issued uniforms in the U.S. Army. The OG-107’s first went into production in 1952 and became the defining uniform of the Cold War and Vietnam.

The first specification for the trousers was dated November 21, 1952, and included all the hallmarks we recognize today:

Two large front patch pocketsTwo rear patch pockets with buttons flap closuresSize adjustment tabs

With OG-107 fatigues being a standard issue across most of the military, they would be the most iconic sartorial choice of Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW) protesting the war in their issued fatigues. The rise to fame was further helped by long-running TV shows such as M.A.S.H, which has seen the famous fatigue pant stay in the mainstream for decades.
